Taiwan’s government has launched a new website to encourage Chinese citizens to report intelligence tips, claiming it provides a secure way for those unhappy with their system to express their discontent. Taiwan and China have a history of espionage against each other, and Taiwan has noted an increase in Chinese spying cases.
The National Security Bureau stated that challenges in China’s economy and strict political control have led to growing public dissatisfaction, prompting more individuals to reach out to Taiwanese agencies with information. A promotional video on the website, created using AI, features a Chinese civil servant observing colleagues being taken away, highlighting the fear of investigations in China.
The website is blocked in China, although many use VPNs to access restricted sites. Taiwan is urging Chinese nationals both within and outside China to courageously provide information. This initiative follows similar practices seen in countries like the U. S., Britain, and Israel, aiming to broaden Taiwan’s intelligence sources. In 2024, China had also set up a channel for reporting on Taiwan “separatists. ” Taiwan maintains that only its people can decide their future.
