A senior U. S. official stated they would apply maximum pressure on Iran, particularly its oil sales to China, which receives over 80% of Iran’s oil exports.

The Chinese foreign ministry responded, emphasizing the importance of normal cooperation between countries under international law.

Additionally, U. S. and Iranian diplomats recently spoke through Omani mediators about Iran’s nuclear program while U. S. military preparations were made in the region for possible extended operations against Iran.
