Iran is open to negotiating a nuclear deal with the United States if the U. S. is willing to lift sanctions, as stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi in a BBC interview. Iran is ready to discuss limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of sanctions but does not want to connect this issue to topics like missile programs.
Takht-Ravanchi confirmed that a second round of nuclear talks will occur on Tuesday in Geneva after earlier discussions in Oman. He mentioned that initial talks were positive but that it is too soon to make any conclusions. A U. S. delegation will meet with Iranian officials, facilitated by Omani representatives.
Iran’s atomic chief indicated a willingness to dilute its uranium enrichment in exchange for lifting all financial sanctions, showcasing Iran’s flexibility. However, Takht-Ravanchi emphasized that Iran will not accept zero uranium enrichment, a major barrier to a deal last year. The U. S. views this enrichment as a pathway to developing nuclear weapons, which Iran denies. Previously, the U. S. left the 2015 nuclear agreement that had eased sanctions on Iran.
