A drone attack on Russia’s Primorsk port on Friday resulted in a fire on a vessel and a pumping station, marking the first reported drone strike on Russia’s significant oil and fuel export terminal.
Since August, Ukraine has increased strikes against Russia’s energy infrastructure amid stalled peace talks. Other ports, like Ust-Luga and Novorossiisk, have also been targeted frequently. Following these attacks, Russia raised its September crude export plan from western ports to 2.1 million barrels per day.
The governor reported that the fire was extinguished and there was no risk of an oil spill. He mentioned over 30 drones were destroyed in the area, as local residents expressed anxiety. Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg temporarily suspended operations due to the situation. Russia’s military claimed to have intercepted 221 Ukrainian drones overnight. Ukraine’s military spokesperson had no immediate comment.
