Denmark plans to buy European air defense systems for 58 billion Danish crowns ($9.11 billion), marking its largest arms purchase.

This decision follows a directive from Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen to prepare for potential Russian aggression. Denmark intends to acquire eight systems, including the long-range SAMP/T platform from Eurosam and medium-range systems from Norway, Germany, or France. Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stressed the challenging security situation, citing recent Russian drone activity in Polish airspace.

The European systems are expected to be delivered faster and cheaper than the U. S. Patriot missile defense system, according to the head of the defense acquisition organization.
