At least 37 people died after a Russian drone attack on an ammunition depot near Kyiv, which caused a large explosion. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed his intent to hold those responsible for negligence accountable, marking this as the second similar incident in two months. This attack was the deadliest in the Kyiv area this year and came after three days of continuous air strikes that killed residents and damaged homes.
The strike occurred late on Friday in the village of Myla, injuring many and forcing hundreds to evacuate. Significant damage was reported to residential buildings and a facility for the elderly. The head of a neighboring village, who tried to help, was among those killed. Zelenskiy criticized the dangerous storage of explosives near civilians and called the situation “terrible.”
This incident follows a previous one in Vyshneve where ten people died due to a similar detonation. Zelenskiy stated that a criminal investigation has begun into official negligence related to the storage of weapons. He urged a complete audit of ammunition storage sites.
Overnight, nine other regions faced Russian strikes, with Kyiv experiencing relentless attacks from jet-powered drones. Air defense alarms were constant, and strikes resulted in more civilian casualties, including a 14-year-old girl and a 2-year-old girl. Ukrainian officials suggested these attacks were aimed at disrupting life in the city.
