‘We don’t need your help’: Trump rebuffs UK offer of support against Iran

President Donald Trump stated that Britain is considering sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East, but he believes the U. S. does not require them to win the war with Iran. This remark is part of ongoing tensions between the U. S. and the U. K., particularly with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, whom Trump accused of damaging their close relationship after Britain declined to initially allow U. S. forces to use its bases for attacks on Iran. Trump posted on Truth Social that he would remember this lack of support, indicating that he believes Britain’s involvement is not needed now since the U. S. has already won.

On the same day, the British defense ministry announced preparations for the Prince of Wales aircraft carrier’s possible deployment, though a final decision had not been made. In defense of his decisions regarding military actions, Starmer stated he needed assurances of legality and proper planning before allowing U. S. operations. He later permitted the use of British bases for defensive purposes against Iran.

Responding to Trump, British foreign minister Yvette Cooper emphasized the importance of focusing on practical decision-making rather than social media comments. She advocated for a calm and steady approach rather than responding to rhetoric. Earlier, Starmer criticized Trump’s comments on various issues, including the desire to buy Greenland.
