Iran Retaliates by Declaring EU Armies ‘Terrorist Groups’

Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, has labeled the armies of EU countries as "terrorist groups" in response to the European Union's recent designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization.

Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, has labeled the armies of EU countries as “terrorist groups” in response to the European Union’s recent designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization. This shift occurred following severe crackdowns on protests in Iran. Qalibaf criticized the EU for aligning with U. S. interests, stating that such actions are against the interests of European people. He mentioned that the national security commission would discuss expelling military attaches from EU countries and that lawmakers expressed strong sentiments against the U. S. and Europe.

The Revolutionary Guards, integral to Iran’s ruling system since the 1979 revolution, stated that the EU’s decision hinders cooperation and fosters hostility. The backdrop of these tensions includes an increased U. S. military presence in the Middle East amid threats from President Donald Trump concerning Iran’s nuclear activities and treatment of protesters. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that any U. S. attack could escalate into a regional conflict.
