China showcased its C919 jetliner at the Dubai Airshow, marking its first international appearance outside East Asia. The flight took off at about 3:30 p.m. local time and completed several circles before landing safely at Al-Maktoum International Airport. Chinese manufacturer COMAC aims to compete with major aircraft companies like Airbus and Boeing, despite its existing models, C909 and C919, lacking crucial certifications from Western regulators.

At the airshow, many visitors showed interest in the C919 and interacted with a pilot in its cockpit. COMAC presented plans for a longer version of the C919, called the Stretched Variant, which is designed to carry 210 passengers and target the Asia-Pacific market, competing with Airbus A321neo and Boeing 737 MAX 10. Additionally, COMAC displayed the C909, China’s first jet-engine plane, which began commercial operations in 2016. However, neither model has secured a major international customer yet.

COMAC also highlighted its future C929 wide-body jet, initially co-developed with Russia but now a COMAC-led project, although detailed specifications are not available. The company has expressed a commitment to working with global partners, while analysts suggest that China’s market share in the jet industry will remain limited to supportive nations for now. Boeing’s CEO recognized the competition as a positive force for the industry, emphasizing the benefits of innovation.
