Russia’s financial watchdog, Rosfinmonitoring, has added former prime minister Mikhail Kasyanov and economist Sergei Guriev to its list of “extremists and terrorists. “
This list now includes 19,131 people and 823 organizations, reflecting the government’s actions against exiled critics amid the war in Ukraine.
Those on the list can have their bank accounts frozen. Kasyanov, who served as prime minister under Vladimir Putin and later opposed the Kremlin, left Russia in 2022 after criticizing the invasion of Ukraine.
Guriev, formerly a chief economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, currently works at the London Business School and has advocated for stronger sanctions against Russia.
