Pope Leo on Wednesday condemned the “unacceptable” conditions for Palestinians in Gaza and expressed solidarity with civilians.
He called for a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas during his weekly general audience at the Vatican. The pope noted that many Palestinians are living in fear and are being forced from their homes due to a major Israeli ground assault in Gaza City.
He reiterated his demand for a truce, the release of hostages, and a diplomatic solution to the conflict. He encouraged prayers for peace and justice. Earlier this month, he met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog to discuss the situation in Gaza.
