Current Vice President Kamala Harris has obtained the Democratic nomination for president, having garnered support from 99% of delegates within her party through an online voting process, as stated by Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison.
In his remarks, reported by U.S. media, it was noted that a total of 4,567 party delegates endorsed Harris. CBS highlighted that on Monday evening, Harris expressed her willingness to accept the nomination for the Democratic Party in the forthcoming election.
Meanwhile, ABC pointed out that the voting results require official confirmation from the secretary of the party’s national convention, scheduled to take place in Chicago from August 19 to 22. Nevertheless, it is evident that this vote has effectively secured Harris’s position as the Democratic nominee.
Kamala Harris, chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her candidate for vice president according to CNN. Harris is expected to announce her decision soon. She has not yet called Walz to inform him of her choice, CNN said.
Last Friday, Harris won the 1,976 votes she needed from Democratic delegates to become the nominee for president. Online voting to nominate Harris for the election began last Thursday.
The US presidential election will be held on November 5.
