On Monday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken the escalating situation in the Middle East and potential strategies to contain it.

In a telephone conversation, Abdelatty provided Blinken with an overview of his communications with foreign ministers from several regional nations, including Iran and Lebanon, as well as representatives from various European countries, all aimed at addressing the current tensions in the area, as stated by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of all involved parties exercising restraint to avoid further instability and to protect the interests of the region’s populations.

He called on Blinken to pressure Israel to stop practicing “the brinkmanship policy” and engage seriously with real political will in the Gaza ceasefire negotiations.

The two ministers touched on the ceasefire negotiations and the efforts made by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States in this regard, the statement said.

They also agreed to continue efforts and coordination to encourage the parties to reach a ceasefire agreement as soon as possible.
