The official news agency IRNA reported that Iran’s government has set June 28 as the date for the 14th presidential election. The decision was made during a meeting attended by Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber, Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Vice President for Legal Affairs Mohammad Dehqan, and representatives from the Iranian Constitutional Council and Interior Ministry.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and some members of his accompanying team, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, were confirmed dead Monday morning as the wreckage of the helicopter carrying them was found following its crash in bad weather on Sunday near Varzaqan County, some 670 km away from Tehran.

As per Article 131 of Iran’s Constitution, in the event that the president is unable to carry out their duties, the first vice president will assume the responsibilities of the executive branch. Additionally, the interim president is mandated to organize the election of a new president within a period not exceeding 50 days.

The meeting also outlined the timetable for the electoral procedures, which includes the establishment of executive committees, candidate registration, and the commencement of electoral campaigns, as reported by IRNA. According to the timetable, candidate registration will take place from May 30 to June 3, followed by electoral campaigns scheduled to run from June 12 to 27.
