The Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi experienced a tough landing during his visit to the country’s northwest, as reported by Iranian national TV. The incident was caused by dense fog in the area, hindering rescue operations.
Sixteen rescue teams have been deployed to the forested and mountainous region, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and the governor of East Azarbaijan province. The helicopter incident took place near Jolfa, a city bordering the Republic of Azerbaijan, approximately 600 kilometers northwest of Tehran.
Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi stated that the tough emergency landing was necessary due to adverse weather conditions.
The Iranian government is asking for patience, prayer, and trust in the rescuers who are attempting to reach the site, government spokesperson Ali Bahadori-Jahromi said in a post on X.
