Hamas threats to suspend negotiations after Rafah evacuation order

Hamas has issued a warning that it may halt all indirect negotiations with Israel following Israel’s directive for Palestinian residents to vacate the eastern regions of Rafah in southern Gaza. The senior Hamas official expressed concerns that Israel’s plans to escalate activities in Rafah could negatively impact the ongoing talks, potentially leading to Hamas withdrawing from the negotiations. The official emphasized that even if Israel proceeds with an invasion of Rafah, it will not achieve its military objectives and will not succeed in suppressing Palestinian resistance in Gaza.

Earlier today, the Israeli military instructed the Palestinian inhabitants to vacate the eastern regions of Rafah city in the southern part of the blockaded coastal strip. Avichai Adraee, an Israeli army spokesperson, mentioned in a media release that “all individuals residing in the neighborhoods of Al-Salam, Al-Jeneina, Tabba Zaraa, and Al-Byouk in the Rafah region within blocks 10-16, 28, and 270, will face severe military action against terrorist groups.” He emphasized that “those in close proximity to terrorist organizations are putting themselves and their families in danger,” urging them to immediately leave their homes to ensure their safety. He also highlighted that the military is expanding the humanitarian zone in Al-Mawasi, providing field hospitals, tents, and essential supplies such as food, water, and medication.

The military operation in eastern Rafah will progress steadily as the situation is continuously evaluated. Adraea emphasized that the army will utilize various methods such as distributing leaflets, sending SMS messages, making phone calls, and broadcasting information through Arab media channels. It was emphasized that the Israeli army remains committed to achieving the objectives of the conflict, which includes “dismantling Hamas and ensuring the safe return of all kidnapped individuals.” Rafah is viewed by Israel as the final significant stronghold of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, providing refuge to approximately 1.4 million Palestinians.
