Pakistan’s security forces conducted operations along the Afghanistan border, reportedly killing at least 29 militants through ground and air strikes. Meanwhile, the Afghan Taliban claimed that airstrikes killed 38 civilians.
These airstrikes were Pakistan’s second action targeting militant locations in Afghanistan, intensifying the existing conflict between the two nations. The strikes hit areas in the Afghan provinces of Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar, where Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that 25 militants were killed, alongside significant destruction of weapons.
Additionally, four militants associated with the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar group were killed in ground actions in Bajaur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Afghan officials reported that the majority of civilian casualties occurred when Pakistani jets bombed a home in Paktia.
Pakistan justified its actions as a response to recent terrorist attacks, while it accuses Afghanistan of harboring militants, a claim that the Afghan Taliban denies.
