The Kremlin stated that the U. S. is eager to finalize a peace deal to end the Ukraine war, but complex issues make a resolution far off, and talks are currently on hold.

For over four years, Russian forces have struggled to seize the entire Donbas region in eastern Ukraine, where Ukrainian troops are now positioned in fortified cities.

President Donald Trump has expressed disappointment in not ending the war and announced a ceasefire from May 9 to May 11, which was supported by both Russia and Ukraine. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted the U. S. concern but emphasized the difficulties in reaching an agreement.

The ceasefire will include a stop to all military actions and a prisoner swap of 1,000 individuals from each side. Trump mentioned the possibility of extending the ceasefire.

Kremlin aides indicated that while discussions may restart, the timeline remains uncertain, with the three-day ceasefire confirmed.
