Russian forces attacked the southeastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro on Saturday, using drones and missiles, resulting in 10 deaths and dozens of injuries. The city experienced three separate attacks, with Regional Governor Oleksandr Hanzha reporting that eight people died and 49 were injured. A significant strike overnight caused part of an apartment building to collapse, killing four people, while another attack during the day resulted in one death and seven injuries as rescuers worked on-site.
The attack lasted for over 20 hours, marked by waves of assaults on residential areas, with Hanzha stating the missiles and drones were used deliberately. Just before midnight, another strike caused a fire at an infrastructure site. Ukraine’s air force claimed to have downed 580 drones and 30 missiles out of 619 drones and 47 missiles launched by Russia.
Locals expressed their grief and anger, with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko accusing Russia of intentionally targeting critical infrastructure and civilian buildings. Aliona Katrushova, a resident, expressed her sorrow as she watched the rescue efforts, reflecting on the tragedy as another attack occurred on her husband’s birthday. In the northern region of Chernihiv, missile and drone strikes killed two and injured seven.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy emphasized the need for immediate international action to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses. Additionally, drone fragments caused damage in NATO member Romania without any casualties. Ukraine has also increased drone attacks on Russian territory, with an incident in Yekaterinburg resulting in minor injuries. There were reports of a Ukrainian drone attack killing three residents in Luhansk and Russian air defenses downing 43 Ukrainian drones over Sevastopol and the Black Sea.
