A K-Pop concert called Dream Concert 2026 will take place in Hong Kong in February and will be broadcast in mainland China, according to the event’s organizer. This follows a period of nearly ten years when Korean culture faced an unofficial ban in China due to diplomatic tensions over a U. S. missile shield in South Korea. Chinese President Xi Jinping recently visited South Korea and discussed cultural exchanges with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, creating optimism that China might lift this ban.
The concert will be held at Kai Tak Sports Park on February 6 and will be aired by Hunan Television, marking the first time a K-Pop concert will be seen in mainland China since the cultural exchanges were restricted. However, China’s foreign ministry stated it was unaware of any upcoming concerts or plans to end the ban on K-Pop.
South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun mentioned that both countries are organizing a visit by President Lee to China early next year. While specifics about the performing K-Pop acts have not been provided, shares of various K-Pop agencies rose significantly following the announcement. Dream Concert is an annual event, and this year it was previously held in Abu Dhabi after canceled plans for mainland China and Hong Kong.
