European leaders expressed their support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Monday after discussions with U. S. officials to revise a peace proposal that initially favored Russia. Zelenskiy received a warm welcome from French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris, where they held a call with other European leaders from Britain, Germany, Italy, Poland, and the EU. Zelenskiy emphasized that the conflict should end quickly, noting that the involvement of all leaders is crucial.

Despite two rounds of negotiations, Zelenskiy stated that the U. S. and Ukrainian representatives had not finalized changes to a proposed peace plan. This plan included terms that mandated Ukraine to concede more territory and restrict its military capabilities, which Ukraine views as a path to surrender and vulnerability to future Russian aggression. U. S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged the complexity of negotiations but expressed optimism about achieving progress.

As discussions intensified, Ukraine faced a challenging moment as it was losing ground in the conflict and dealing with a notable corruption scandal. Zelenskiy’s chief of staff resigned amid an investigation, and two cabinet ministers were dismissed. Meanwhile, Donald Trump, whose representative was visiting Moscow for talks, voiced frustration at the stalling peace efforts, mentioning that both Russia and Ukraine seemed eager to resolve the conflict.

On the battlefield, Russia continued its assaults, with missile strikes hitting the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, resulting in casualties. Reports noted that Russian forces made incremental advances in eastern Ukraine, capturing a settlement in the Donetsk region. Moscow claimed it was close to taking the city of Pokrovsk, which would be a significant achievement for them.

While Russia was launching nightly strikes on Ukrainian cities, primarily targeting energy infrastructure and causing widespread outages, Ukraine countered with long-range attacks aimed at disrupting Russian oil exports. The situation remains critical as winter approaches, complicating conditions for both sides in the ongoing war.
