Italian energy company Eni is set to make a final investment decision for Mozambique’s second floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) platform at an event in Maputo on Thursday.
Mozambique’s government approved the development plan for the Coral North platform, which will produce 3.5 million metric tons of LNG annually. Eni’s CEO Claudio Descalzi and Mozambique President Daniel Chapo are expected to attend the signing ceremony.
Coral North will double the country’s existing LNG production from the Rovuma Basin. Eni’s first platform, Coral South, began exports in 2022.
