Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Beijing on Friday. Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that China’s stance has remained unwavering.
China approaches and cultivates its relationship with the United States based on a global perspective of constructing a shared future for humanity. He reiterated that China’s position has consistently remained the same. China upholds the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and mutually beneficial cooperation, and is committed to fostering the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations.
Wang emphasized that China’s demands have consistently remained unchanged. China advocates for the respect of each other’s core interests and urges the U.S. not to interfere in China’s internal affairs, impede China’s progress, or overstep China’s boundaries concerning its sovereignty, security, and developmental interests.
Acknowledging that Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Joe Biden jointly outlined a forward-looking vision during their meeting in San Francisco last November, Wang highlighted that under the leadership of both heads of state, China-U.S. relations have generally stabilized and witnessed increased dialogue, cooperation, and positive developments across various domains. This progress has been well-received by the people of both nations and the international community.
However, Wang emphasized that China-U.S. relations continue to encounter growing negative factors and various disruptions. He further stated that China’s legitimate development rights are being unreasonably suppressed, while its core interests are constantly being challenged. According to Wang, the crucial question facing both China and the United States is whether they will adhere to the path of stability or repeat the mistake of descending into a downward spiral.
This issue will test the sincerity and capability of both sides. Wang added that the world eagerly awaits to witness whether the two countries will take the lead in international cooperation to address global challenges and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Alternatively, they may choose to confront each other, potentially escalating into conflicts and resulting in a lose-lose situation.
