Putin, Trump and Xi Could Meet in China Next Month in High-Stakes Three-Way Summit

The Kremlin announced that President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump, and Chinese President Xi Jinping might hold a three-way meeting during next month’s APEC summit in China. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the idea was discussed but clarified that no specific proposals or agreed plans were made regarding the meeting or its agenda. The discussion arose after a report in the Wall Street Journal mentioned Putin’s suggestion to address the conflict in Ukraine.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha criticized the concept of a summit among these leaders, arguing that a meeting involving Ukraine, the US, and Russia could help expedite the end of the war. In contrast, he believed that a meeting with China could encourage Putin to prolong the conflict. Peskov acknowledged the ongoing US mediation efforts to resolve the situation and noted that Ukraine’s involvement would be necessary for any final peace agreement.

He emphasized that a resolution could not happen without Ukrainian participation. The last US-mediated peace talks were in February, and currently, Ukraine and Russia are still far from agreeing on peace terms.
