The Kremlin stated on Monday that while there is no conclusive evidence, it is highly likely that proof will emerge showing Ukraine planted explosives found near a gas pipeline in Serbia that carries Russian gas to Hungary.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban convened an emergency defense council following the discovery of explosives near the TurkStream pipeline. He noted that Ukraine has attempted to cut off Europe from Russian energy for years, though he did not directly accuse Kyiv of this specific incident.
Ukraine’s foreign ministry denied any connection to the explosives. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the situation as potentially very dangerous, emphasizing the pipeline’s importance and claiming that the Kyiv regime has previously engaged in sabotage against energy infrastructure.
Peskov expressed hope that Hungary and Serbia would take action to reduce the threat and mentioned discussions Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy had in Ankara concerning aggressive actions against the infrastructure of the South Stream and Blue Stream pipelines.
