Tehran Warns of ‘Devastating’ Strikes on Gulf Power Plants in Response to Trump

Iran's Revolutionary Guards warned that they would target Israel's power plants and those supplying U. S. bases in the Gulf if President Trump follows through on his threat to destroy Iran's power network.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned that they would target Israel’s power plants and those supplying U. S. bases in the Gulf if President Trump follows through on his threat to destroy Iran’s power network. The statement came after Trump claimed that the Guards planned to attack water desalination plants in the region, which are vital for drinking water. The Guards asserted their determination to retaliate similarly to any threats made against them.

Trump had stated that Iranian power plants would be targeted unless Tehran fully opened the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, setting a deadline that created heightened tensions. This situation has led to significant disruptions in global oil supply, as the Strait carries a large percentage of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas. An energy crisis is now described as being worse than previous oil shocks and the recent gas shortages caused by the conflict in Ukraine.

Iran’s Defence Council escalated its threats by stating that they would lay sea mines to block all Gulf routes if attacked. They asserted that any military action against Iran would lead to conditions in the Gulf similar to those seen in the Strait of Hormuz. While Iranian officials claimed the Strait is open to most ships, those linked to Iran’s enemies are being denied passage.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in over 2,000 deaths, significantly impacting markets and driving inflation concerns globally. There are fears that attacks on electricity infrastructure could disrupt water supplies, raising alarm in oil markets. The U. N. has described attacks on essential civilian infrastructure as potential war crimes.

Heavy bombings from the U. S. and Israel are reported to have weakened Iran’s missile capabilities, yet Tehran has continued to demonstrate its ability to retaliate. Warning sirens in Israel indicated incoming missiles, suggesting Iran’s resolve to strike back despite continued military pressure.

The Iranian leadership is in turmoil, with reports of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei being injured and isolated following attacks. Strikes on residential buildings in Iran have caused casualties, amplifying fears about the impact on civilians.

Trump’s aggressive posturing comes amid a complex military landscape, including ongoing confrontations between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Israeli military actions have targeted Hezbollah sites recently, and further prolonged fighting is expected. Amidst this chaos, Iran and its regional influence remain a focal point in international tensions.
