Scores of people have been killed across the Middle East since the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, drawing several regional states into the conflict. Gulf countries hosting U.S. military bases and personnel, as well as Lebanon and other neighbouring states, have been affected by missile strikes, military operations and related incidents as the war enters its sixth day.
Below are the reported death tolls from countries affected by the conflict as of March 5. The figures are based on official statements and local reports. Reuters has not independently verified the casualty numbers.
Iran
At least 1,230 people have been killed in Iran, according to the non-profit humanitarian group the Iranian Red Crescent Society. The figure includes 175 schoolgirls and staff who died in a missile strike on a primary school in the southern city of Minab on the first day of the war. It remains unclear whether the overall toll includes casualties among members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Israel
Ten civilians have been killed in Israel, including nine people who died in an Iranian missile strike on Beit Shemesh near Jerusalem on March 1, according to Israel’s ambulance service, Magen David Adom. The Israel Defense Forces has not reported any military casualties.
Lebanon
At least 77 people have been killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon, according to the Lebanese health ministry.
Bahrain
One person died after a fire broke out in Salman Industrial City following the interception of a missile, the Bahraini interior ministry said.
Kuwait
Three people, including two Kuwaiti soldiers, were killed in Iranian attacks on the country, according to statements from Kuwait’s health and foreign ministries.
Oman
One person was killed when a projectile struck the Marshall Islands–flagged product tanker MKD VYOM off the coast of Muscat.
United Arab Emirates
Three people were killed in attacks linked to the conflict, according to the UAE defence ministry.
U.S. military
Six U.S. service members were killed in a strike on a facility in Kuwait, according to U.S. Central Command.
Syria
Four people were killed when an Iranian missile hit a building in the southern Syrian city of Sweida, state news agency SANA reported.
Iraq
At least 13 people have been killed in Iraq, according to Iraqi health authorities. The toll includes 11 militia members, one army soldier and one civilian, based on official health registration figures.
