UN probe: Iran war illegal under Charter, school attack a shocking violation

An independent United Nations investigation into human rights violations in Iran condemned attacks from Israel and the United States, as well as Iran's retaliatory strikes, stating that these actions violate the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force against a country's sovereignty.

An independent United Nations investigation into human rights violations in Iran condemned attacks from Israel and the United States, as well as Iran’s retaliatory strikes, stating that these actions violate the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force against a country’s sovereignty. The UN expressed particular concern over a strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in southern Iran, which resulted in numerous casualties, mainly young schoolgirls aged seven to twelve.

A separate UN expert panel reported that over 160 children have been killed in the ongoing conflict. The UN probe indicated that the Iranian people are caught in a military campaign that might last weeks, while also facing a government known for its history of human rights violations. Since protests began on December 28, 2025, due to the country’s economic crisis, tens of thousands of people have been detained and face severe consequences like torture and the death penalty. The statement highlighted that the killing of senior Iranian officials in the U. S.-Israeli airstrikes does not align with acceptable justice under international law.
