Denmark’s King Frederik visited Nuuk on Wednesday, marking his second trip to Greenland in a year, highlighting Denmark’s unity with the territory amid U. S. President Trump’s interest in acquiring the Arctic island. This visit follows diplomatic talks between Greenland, Denmark, and the U. S. to address tensions related to Trump’s comments.
Denmark’s prime minister noted a productive meeting with U. S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, while emphasizing Trump’s stance on Greenland remained unchanged. The king wore a customized jacket featuring the Danish and Greenlandic flags.
During his visit, King Frederik embraced Greenlandic leaders and planned to visit a school, Denmark’s Joint Arctic Command headquarters, and Royal Greenland, the largest seafood producer on the island. The Danish royal family typically visits Greenland annually in traditional attire. The king’s schedule includes a visit to Maniitsoq on Thursday and the Arctic Basic Training program in Kangerlussuaq on Friday.
