The Bangladesh National Party (BNP) secured a two-thirds majority in the general elections, expected to bring stability after the recent political unrest following the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Tarique Rahman, the BNP leader and son of the party’s founder, is likely to become the new prime minister.
In its election manifesto, the BNP outlined several key promises under the motto ‘Bangladesh before all’. For reforms, they plan to implement the July Charter, create new constitutional bodies, and introduce a bicameral parliament. The party aims to revive closed industries and support foreign businesses in profit repatriation.
They also pledge to create nearly 1 million jobs in the ICT sector, ensure fair wages indexed to inflation, and enhance the skills of the youth for government recruitment. Economically, they will improve payment systems and support low-income families with a ‘Family Card’ for essential needs. Health initiatives include increasing public spending and hiring 100,000 health workers, while social initiatives focus on education, sports facilities, and training for religious leaders.
