Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu informed Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that Russia continues to support China regarding Taiwan, as reported by TASS. Russia and China have strengthened their relationship, recently declaring a “no limits” strategic partnership before Russia’s military actions in Ukraine in February 2022. China claims Taiwan as its own and is open to using force for control, while Russia opposes Taiwan’s independence and views it as part of China.
Shoigu expressed concern over those he sees as destabilizing the Taiwan Strait and reaffirmed Russia’s consistent support for China on the issue. He stated that the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing all of China. Shoigu’s visit coincides with diplomatic talks concerning the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
