In Davos Speech, Trump Formally Rejects Military Option for Greenland

U. S. President Donald Trump stated he would not use force to control Greenland during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

U. S. President Donald Trump stated he would not use force to control Greenland during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He emphasized that no other country can secure Greenland but the United States and called Denmark “ungrateful. ” Trump criticized European allies for various policy mistakes and expressed his desire for immediate negotiations regarding the acquisition of Greenland, dismissing the issue as a “small ask” over a “piece of ice.” He claimed that acquiring Greenland would not threaten NATO, which includes both Denmark and the U. S.

During his lengthy speech, which lasted over an hour, Trump mistakenly referred to Greenland as Iceland multiple times. His remarks about Greenland have raised concerns among NATO leaders about potentially disrupting the alliance. Leaders from Denmark and Greenland have proposed ways to enhance U. S. presence on the island, which has a population of 57,000. Despite the attendance of hundreds of delegates, many lost interest in Trump’s speech and began chatting after a while.
