Russia carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine, launching over 450 drones and 45 missiles, which killed at least three people and damaged significant energy infrastructure in Kyiv, Poltava, and Kharkiv regions. In Dnipro, a drone strike on an apartment building resulted in two fatalities and twelve injuries, while one person died in the Kharkiv area. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy emphasized the need for stronger sanctions against Russia in response to these attacks, which are aimed at harming civilians during the winter months.
Since the start of its major offensive nearly four years ago, Russia has frequently targeted Ukraine’s power sector, with nine gas facility attacks in just two months this autumn. Moscow’s Defence Ministry claimed the strikes were a response to Ukrainian attacks on its territory. The Ukrainian air force reported that they intercepted 406 Russian drones and nine missiles, while several Russian attacks successfully hit 25 sites. The Ukrainian government and energy companies are working to restore electricity and water services, particularly in affected cities like Kremenchuk and Horishni Plavni.
