The Kremlin stated it is premature to discuss canceling a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U. S. President Donald Trump, emphasizing the need for proper preparation.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained that meetings should not occur without purpose and mentioned that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U. S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio have been instructed to prepare for the meeting, despite its complexity.

Peskov criticized recent U. S. sanctions on Russian oil companies Lukoil and Rosneft as “unfriendly” but reiterated Russia’s desire to maintain good relations with all countries, including the U. S.

He acknowledged that these actions could harm relations but insisted that Russia would pursue its own interests. Peskov also mentioned that Russia would take legal action against those involved in the potential confiscation of frozen Russian assets.
