NATO’s North Atlantic Council will meet on Tuesday to discuss Russia’s breach of Estonian airspace, as reported by two officials.
Estonia claimed that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered its airspace on Friday for 12 minutes before being forced to leave.
Following this event, Estonia requested consultations under Article 4 of the Washington Treaty, which allows NATO members to meet if any member feels their security is threatened.
Russia’s Defence Ministry denied the violation, stating the jets were over neutral waters. This incident raised concerns amid ongoing tensions due to the war in Ukraine.
