The United States and Britain will announce agreements on technology and civil nuclear energy during President Trump’s second state visit this week.
The UK aims to finalize steel tariffs as part of a trade deal. Trump and his wife, Melania, will experience British royal ceremonies, including a carriage tour and state banquet, during their visit. The UK government hopes this royal appeal will strengthen ties with the U. S. on defense and energy, having already secured a favorable tariff deal.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer will meet Trump at Chequers on Thursday to discuss cooperation on issues like Ukraine and to finalize lower tariffs on steel and aluminum. A spokesperson mentioned that the leaders will sign a significant tech partnership and multi-billion dollar deals for small nuclear projects that could power AI data centers.
Starmer and Trump have built a working relationship despite their differences, with Starmer being the first leader to agree on an economic deal with Trump to reduce global tariffs. Details on steel tariffs are still pending.
Before Trump’s arrival, Britain announced over 1.25 billion pounds ($1.69 billion) in U. S. investment from companies like PayPal and Bank of America. Nvidia and OpenAI are expected to announce their investment deals as part of a technology agreement, and CoreWeave will also reveal investments in Britain soon.
A British official delegation will be in the U. S. on Monday to finalize details of Trump’s visit. However, Starmer’s recent firing of ambassador Peter Mandelson over his past connections to Jeffrey Epstein complicates matters. During Trump’s visit, there will be announcements on enhancing cultural ties and sports partnerships in Britain.
