Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah, is the suspect in the shooting of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. Authorities say Robinson criticized Kirk in a recent conversation and was living with his family when the incident occurred. He was arrested after a family friend reported him to the police.
So far, investigators have not disclosed a clear motive for the shooting. According to Utah Governor Spencer Cox, a family member mentioned that Robinson expressed dislike for Kirk’s views, particularly after Kirk’s appearance at Utah Valley University, where the shooting took place. Robinson had shown an increased interest in political matters recently and had engraved anti-fascist messages on bullet casings found at the crime scene.
Robinson has no prior criminal history and is registered as an inactive voter who did not participate in the last presidential election. He graduated from Pine View High School in 2021 and briefly attended Utah State University. His mother shared moments of pride in his academic achievements, including a high ACT score and a four-year scholarship offer. At the time of his arrest, he lived in Washington County, Utah, with his parents and two younger brothers.
After a family member reported that Robinson had confessed or implied his involvement, a roommate provided evidence of messages about hiding a rifle, which matched the weapon found near the shooting scene. Robinson is currently held in a Utah County jail but has not been formally charged.
