Poland is facing increased tensions, as Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the country is the closest it has been to open conflict since World War Two.
This follows the shooting down of Russian drones over Polish territory. Tusk reported 19 airspace intrusions overnight and noted that Poland has requested NATO to begin consultations under Article 4 of its treaty, which allows members to discuss threats to their security.
While Tusk emphasized there is no definitive claim of being on the brink of war, he stated that the situation has become significantly more dangerous. He confirmed that three drones had been shot down, with a potential fourth as well.
Additionally, Polish officials found multiple drones and missile debris in various locations, including a residential building, though no injuries were reported. The discovery of drone parts near cemeteries and in fields raises further security concerns, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
