Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of Europe in China’s major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and its path towards modernization during a trilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at Elysee Palace.
Xi expressed pleasure in meeting Macron and von der Leyen again, highlighting that France was the first stop of his overseas visit this year. He stressed that China always views its relations with the European Union (EU) from a strategic and long-term perspective.
Xi expressed hope for the reinforcement and mutual growth of China-France and China-EU relations. In the face of global turbulence and transformation, Xi urged China and the EU to continue seeing each other as partners, maintain dialogue and cooperation, deepen strategic communication, enhance mutual trust, build consensus, coordinate strategically, promote steady growth of China-EU ties, and contribute to world peace and development.
