According to reports from Egyptian media on Saturday, Egyptian mediators and Hamas have come to an agreement on various issues pertaining to a possible ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. An unnamed senior official, as quoted by Egypt’s Al-Qahera News TV channel, stated that a delegation from Hamas had arrived in Cairo to discuss the terms of an initiative proposed by Egypt for a ceasefire with Israel. Earlier in the day, two anonymous Egyptian sources informed Xinhua that the Hamas delegation had arrived in Cairo on Saturday with the aim of finalizing and implementing a truce agreement with Israel.
The visit of the Hamas delegation followed assurances from Egypt that the proposed deal could lead to a ceasefire in the besieged enclave, as stated by the sources. The sources also revealed that Egypt had cautioned Hamas about the potential escalation of tensions in Gaza if they were unable to reach an agreement.
William Burns, the director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, is reportedly planning a visit to Egypt as part of the tripartite guarantors’ efforts to uphold the ceasefire deal. These guarantors consist of Egypt, the United States, and Qatar.
