US Vice President JD Vance stated on Friday that he will not watch the livestream of the military execution of Nidal Hasan, the gunman responsible for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 people. President Donald Trump has not yet commented on the Pentagon’s plan for the livestream. During a White House event, Trump mentioned Hasan’s upcoming execution by firing squad but did not address the criticism surrounding the livestream proposal made by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

Some Republican lawmakers have opposed the decision, with Senator Thom Tillis describing it as “beyond disgusting.” He compared public executions to practices of oppressive regimes like Iran and Afghanistan, asserting that such actions should not occur in America. Hasan’s execution, scheduled for December 3, will mark the first time a person is executed by a US military firing squad since 1945, at the Texas base where the shooting took place.
