Qatari mediators are set to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in New York, along with separate discussions with the US, on Monday or Tuesday to address the ongoing war. These talks will focus on a revised seven-day proposal that Iran introduced during the UN General Assembly.
Araqchi remains in New York after the assembly, and it is currently unknown who will represent the US in these discussions. Iran’s ISNA news agency confirmed Araqchi’s meetings with the mediators on Monday morning.
The seven-day plan suggests halting hostilities in Iran and Lebanon, unfreezing Iranian assets, lifting oil sanctions, and removing the US blockade on Iranian ports. In return, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume nuclear talks.
US President Trump rejected Iran’s proposal due to the country’s economic struggles but anticipates further negotiations this week. Araqchi stated that Iran is awaiting the US’s formal position and emphasized that any actions regarding the Strait of Hormuz depend on meeting their conditions.
