Italy plans to ban face coverings in schools and limit the number of foreign students per class, according to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. During a youth event organized by her party, she emphasized her right-wing policies, noting that Italy faces challenges due to migration, especially given its central Mediterranean location.
Meloni stated that the government will soon present a measure to set a maximum number of foreign students per class. This plan also includes requiring parents of foreign students who struggle to integrate to learn Italian and banning burqas and niqabs in schools. She explained that if only one child in a class doesn’t understand Italian, they can learn and integrate, but if many do not understand, it hinders real integration.
Currently, 11.6% of students in Italian schools are non-citizens. Meloni asserted that students should not cover their faces at school, emphasizing the importance of openness and integration.
