Hormuz: Oman and Iran Discuss Navigation Management

Oman and Iran agreed to continue discussions about managing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, focusing on maritime services and associated costs.

Oman and Iran agreed to continue discussions about managing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, focusing on maritime services and associated costs. A joint working group from their foreign ministries will be created to keep the conversations going and will also involve other nearby countries and relevant parties.

This agreement follows a memorandum of understanding signed the previous week, which emphasizes discussions between Iran, Oman, and other Gulf states on the strait’s management. The announcement came after discussions between Iranian officials and Oman’s Sultan, highlighting their commitment to safe passage in the strait according to international law while respecting each country’s territorial waters.

Since February, the strait has faced disruptions due to the U. S.-Israeli war against Iran and subsequent blockades on Iranian ports. Oman and Iran reaffirmed their goal for the strait to remain a secure route for international shipping and to promote regional stability and maritime safety.
