A senior Russian diplomat, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, stated that a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U. S. President Donald Trump is possible.

He mentioned that efforts to find a way forward are ongoing and that communication channels between Russia and the U. S. are still active.

Although their last meeting in Alaska in August did not lead to any agreements about Ukraine, Ryabkov emphasized that dialogue continues in various forms. He noted the impressive progress in building this dialogue.

Ryabkov also discussed the idea of a potential trilateral meeting with China and the U. S. on nuclear stability but clarified that Russia is not pushing China towards this and has not received formal proposals from the U. S. on the matter.

Trump has shown interest in involving China in nuclear arms reduction discussions.
