Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced that Egypt would take necessary measures to defend Saudi Arabia if requested, following increased Houthi attacks on the kingdom. During a graduation ceremony at the Egyptian Military Academy, he stated that harming Saudi Arabia’s security or stability is unacceptable. Sisi emphasized that Egypt does not seek to attack anyone but is ready to defend its ally.
Recent Houthi assaults have targeted Riyadh’s international airport and Saudi Aramco, coinciding with renewed fighting in Yemen. Sisi noted that any action would align with guidance from Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, mentioning a recent visit from the crown prince to discuss security issues.
Sisi acknowledged that parliamentary approval is needed for military action and requested an emergency session to gain authorization if asked. Following this request, parliament announced a plenary session for the following day without revealing the agenda. Egypt and Saudi Arabia maintain a close strategic and economic partnership, with Saudi support critical for Egypt since 2013.
