The Kremlin announced that Russian diesel has started reaching global markets following an agreement with US President Donald Trump. Trump explained that this move aims to reduce fuel prices. The ban on diesel exports from Russia was partially lifted on October 10.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the diesel supply is expected to help stabilize oil markets, although it won’t fully stabilize them. Data showed that Russia resumed diesel export loadings from the Baltic port of Primorsk, with a tanker carrying about 40,000 metric tons of diesel heading to Morocco.
Trump is motivated to decrease US diesel prices before the midterm elections on November 3. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and other officials criticized the deal, while Russia dismissed the criticism as “cynical” since Europe continues to purchase some Russian oil and gas.
Trump mentioned that Russia would supply over 300,000 metric tons of diesel immediately and additional amounts in the following months, which fall short of the US transport sector’s daily needs.
