U2 celebrated 50 years as a band by performing a surprise concert at their former school, Mount Temple Comprehensive School, where they began playing together as teenagers. The band, which includes Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr., returned to the site and entertained current students with famous songs like “With Or Without You,” “One,” and “Beautiful Day.”
Mullen had started U2 in 1976 by posting a note seeking band members, and their journey began with a performance on the school’s roof in 1978. For this anniversary concert, hundreds of students gathered in the yard, some holding signs, and they enjoyed a 35-minute set that included tracks from their first album “Boy” and later hits like “Vertigo.”
Around 30 local music students joined the band to play string instruments on “One.” U2 also announced their upcoming album “Carnaval De Luz,” set to release on November 13, which will feature a duet with the late Dolly Parton. During the concert, Bono expressed gratitude to their teachers for their support and pride in being Irish.
