President Vladimir Putin stated that a draft peace plan discussed by the United States and Ukraine could be a starting point for future agreements to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
However, he warned that if no agreement is reached, Russia would continue its military actions. Putin noted that the U. S. considers Russia’s perspective but that more discussions are necessary. He expressed Russia’s willingness to assure Europe of no attacks if they required such a pledge.
Putin emphasized that Ukrainian troops must retreat from held territories to stop the fighting, but if they refuse, Russia will take action. He also claimed that the Ukrainian leadership is not legitimate, making a deal legally impossible without international recognition of Russian successes in Ukraine.
