Sweden’s military seeks long-range cruise missiles to target areas deep inside other countries, according to a report submitted to the government.
Defence Minister Pal Jonson emphasized the need for these missiles to match Russia’s long-range military capabilities, which have been expanding significantly.
The Swedish Armed Forces proposed weapon systems with a range of up to 2,000 km (1,243 miles) to hit military bases and key infrastructure.
The report also indicated that Russia is likely to boost its military power over the next five years. Jonson stressed the importance of enhancing Sweden’s air defense and intelligence capabilities, including drones and spy satellites.
